ArmA2 | August 2010

We'll do one short activity-related message a month from now on. This is the one for August 2010:

We've mostly been testing, fixing and fine-tuning the latest teambuild and missions. The missions team has been really active. The activity in the graphics department is a little less than usual right now, some key members are inactive at the moment.

To easily see a general indication of the activity level, we've made a graphical representation (oh so popular these days).

ArmA2 | I44_TVT_Verloren_1_32 Preview

The second preview of one of our multiplayer missions that will be featured in the D-Day project port. This time, the mission is "I44_TVT_Verloren_1_32".

"Verloren" is a 1-32 player Team vs Team mission created by Pac (mission-design and scripting) and SFG (music).

Your objective:

November 1944, A small German squad has broken through enemy lines and destroyed a vital factory, American patrols and checkpoints have been setup around their last know position. German players must escape to nearby exfiltration points manned by friendly units by any means necessary. American players can either secure the checkpoints which act as shared respawn areas, join the search in the surrounding area supported by AI hunter teams, or try and setup an ambush at one or more of the exfiltration points.

ArmA2 | Status update

We've been working steadily on both the port of the D-Day project, as well as on creating the Wacht am Rhein project.

The content for the D-Day project is about finished as far as the visuals are concerned, and the main thing left to do is testing to find and eliminate bugs. We have unfortunately hit a snag during testing. After updating ArmA2 to the latest patch (1.07), the mod refused to start at all. Everything was still working perfectly fine in 1.05, so our coder assumes it is related to the changes in the latest patch, and more specifically, a change in the executable. We haven't been able to determine the exact cause so far, and have therefore not yet fixed this minor issue. Until then, only limited testing is possible.

Thanks to our team member B@Co, the Wacht am Rhein project now has a proper logo.

Artwork for the Wacht am Rhein project is being developed at a reasonable pace. Since the main focus is primarily on fixing the issues with the D-Day project, coding is not a priorityright now, although of course a lot of the D-Day code can be re-used, saving us a lot of effort. A map covering the area around Stavelot is in progress. The content is in various stages of development, labeled "Work in Progress". As we have a policy to show only content that is basically done in newsposts, we've created a separate page for them instead, where you can view many screenshots, renders and other images, to give you an impression of what we've been working on the last few months.

Tw@ts | Patching things up ...

The (almost) brandnew teambuild of the D-Day project was working well in ArmA2 1.06. BIS released patch 1.07, installed it, doubleclicked the shortcut for the mod, zero response ...

Back to the drawing board ...

(short) Mention of I44 in PC Gamer UK

We got a (short) mention in the April issue of PC Gamer UK.

ArmA2 | Some work by Jojimbo

Here is some work by Jojimbo, for the port of the D-Day project from ArmA1 to ArmA2.

ArmA2 | I44_COOP_Invasion_1-32 Preview

In the following two newsposts, we're going to be giving you a preview of two of our multiplayer missions that will be featured in the D-Day project port. The second mission to be previewed is "I44_TeamCoop_Verloren_8_12", but right now, it's time for Invasion!

"Invasion" is a 1-32 player COOP mission created by Pac (mission-design and scripting) and SFG (music).

Your objective:

D-Day Omaha Beach, Easy Red Sector, players must breach the sea wall and secure a foothold on the beach. After clearing the beach defenses along the bluff, push inland and secure several towns defended by dug-in German infantry in well prepared positions to kick off the Allied advance into Normandy.

Tw@ts | Caution: Road Hazard

Development will be a little slow for the next three weeks, as our coder Canukausiuka is going to his annual training period with the National Guard at Hohenfels Combat Maneuver Training Center (Germany). Work on coding and the integration of artwork into the teambuilds will be suspended until he returns, as he is basically the knot that ties everything together. The rest of the team will of course continue to work on artwork and missions.

He will be taking driving tests while in Europe, so if you happen to live on the continent, please be extra careful when traveling on and near public roads until the end of March. We advise public transportation as a viable alternative to severe bodily harm

Sad news about Albert "Monkwarrior"

We were just informed about the passing of Albert aka "Monkwarrior".

We got to know Albert about 6 months ago, after he and a few of his friends offered to help us with further developing our tanks, and the level of tank warfare in ArmA2 as a whole.

He was really passionate about WW2 and especially the tanks, and was always looking for ways to implement the most realistic tank behaviour as possible. Getting things the way they should be, or trying again until he got it right. I have rarely seen that much dedication, knowledge and energy in just one man.

Marcel met Albert in person when they traveled to Belgium together to visit a WW2 memorial day, during which Albert showed that we was as much a friendly guy in real life, always willing to help and teach others about their common interests, as he was online.

Our thoughts go out to Albert' wife and daughter, family and friends.

ArmA2 | First screenshots of D-Day

We've been making progress on porting the ArmA1 project Invasion 1944: D-Day to ArmA2 before we will fully start to develop the ArmA2 project Invasion 1944: Wacht am Rhein.

This port will be the first release for ArmA2, containing mainly reworked versions of the contents of the ArmA1 project, as well as revised scripting and added features. This will give people something to play with while we continue working on Wacht am Rhein, including the replacement of items from previous projects that look dated. Quite a lot of questions and comments about porting D-Day to ArmA2 were posted on the community websites, so we hope that everyone will appreciate the approach we've chosen.

All screenshots in this newspost were made by Ingram, who is from now on our official "Combat Photographer".
